In a culinary adventure inspired by Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, young children set about making colourful cupcakes at the “Wonka Whimsical Kitchen” workshop during the 15th edition of the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF) taking place in Expo Centre Sharjah.
Inspired by the beloved character in the story, the Oompa Loompa cupcakes were the perfect foundations to ignite their creativity. Chef Svetlana Kuznetsova gave each participant a readymade cupcake, pink and blue coloured cream in a piping bag, and sprinkles. The children squeezed the cream on top of the cupcake, topped it with sprinkles, stuck an Oompa Loompa’s picture in the centre and laid it neatly in a cake box to take home.
“Like the diminutive and funny characters called Oompa Loompas who worked in Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory for a monetary reward in cocoa beans, the children will turn bakers,” the trainer quipped.
Join the fun!
The enchanting world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will inspire more Wonka workshops in the coming days including Fizzy Lifting Drinks – which had made Charlie and his grandfather float higher in the air and almost die — and Violet Beauregarde’s tarts. Violet, a habitual gum chewer, was one of the five children who entered Wonka’s factory and turned blue in the story upon eating blueberry pie. Each workshop is a magical opportunity to indulge in the flavours of the popular children’s story.
SCRF 2024, which will come to a close on Sunday, May 12, has the theme “Once Upon a Hero”. The action-packed festival for young readers, artists and creatives as well as their families showcases millions of books including latest releases in children’s and Young Adult (YA) literature from across the globe.
