Emirates Sports Medicine Conference – ESMC announced that nomination for the Young Investigators Award is open for the coming year’s edition of ESMC. The announcement came during the events of the first edition of ESMC, which was held between 13 and 14 May, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Sports Council, at the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU) in Dubai.
Dr. Abdullah Al Rahoomi, President of the Emirates Society of Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine (ESRSM) and the Conference, said: “It gives me great pleasure to announce that we are taking a step towards motivating our young society to enhance our knowledge for future generations. Emirates Sports Medicine Conference is proud to announce that within this next year, we will open the nominations for the Young Investigators Award, the first-of-its-kind honor to be introduced in the UAE that will highlight the importance of research-based studies in the implementation of our day-to-day lives that further fosters closer links between health, medical, and exercise sciences towards humanity and mankind.”
Dr. Al Rahoomi added: “The first edition of ESMC brought together a selection of experts worldwide who provided the latest sports medicine techniques and the latest evidence-based studies in sports medicine and sports injury rehabilitation with significant participation of more than 650 visitors from 30 countries and 58 different nationalities from the UAE and around the world and has achieved great success thanks to the cooperation of many government institutions to whom we extend our gratitude and sincere thanks and appreciation to the General Authority of Sports, Emirates Bodybuilding Federation, Dubai Police, Sheikh Hamdan Award for Medical Sciences, UAE Basketball Association, National Anti-Doping Agency, and all local and international collaborating societies and the supporting industries for their support and efforts throughout the conference. Thank you to the scientific committee who made this event a true success, Dr. Mahesh Cirasanambati, Dr. Maryam Al Matrooshi, Dr. Naji Al Mestaka, Dr. Oualid Ben Cheikh, Dr. Ali Mohammad Ganai, Dr. Phillipe Landreau, Mr. Ryan Kehoe, Ms. Amel Bouguelaa, and to all participants and to all lecturers and participants who gave lectures and scientific discussions that benefited everyone.”
ESMC 2023 gathered a full spectrum of multidisciplinary sports medicine professionals, sports administrators, and federations to attend 13 sessions, 40 lectures, and 2 workshops presented by 43 experts. Attendees witnessed cutting-edge approaches to topics ranging from elite athlete care from Olympic, Paralympic, football, athletics, and many other sports disciplines.
From his side, Dr. Allan Johnston, Consultant Psychiatrist at the English Institute of Sport (EIS), said: “An incredibly successful inaugural Emirates Sports Medicine Conference with an attendance that surpassed what we, as the organizing committee, even hoped to achieve. A high level of local and international speakers with a broad array of interesting and thought-provoking topics. The feedback from delegates have been extremely positive and are already asking when the next Conference will be.”
