State Delegation Showcases Organic Produce in UAE, Expanding Agri-Export Opportunities
In a major step toward expanding international market access for Meghalaya’s agricultural produce, a delegation of government officials and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) is on a Market Exposure Visit to Dubai from 16th to 18th March 2025. Led by the Meghalaya State Agricultural Marketing Board (MSAMB), the delegation is participating in promotional events on 17th March at Our Wellness Village Café, Sahara Centre, Sharjah, and on 18th March at Lulu Hypermarket, Silicon Oasis, Dubai. These events will showcase Meghalaya’s premium organic and GI-tagged products, including Turmeric, Ginger, and Strawberries, under the Meghalaya Collective brand.
Meghalaya, known for its rich biodiversity and sustainable farming practices, is emerging as a key player in India’s organic and high-value agricultural sector. With over 80% of its population engaged in agriculture, the state has launched mission-mode interventions in Turmeric, Ginger, Mushroom, Apiculture, Spices, Khasi Mandarin, and Pineapple, focusing on value addition, sustainability, and farmer income enhancement. The MoU signed ith Lulu Group International in November 2023 has already facilitated the successful export of Khasi Mandarin, Pineapple, and Ginger to Dubai, strengthening the state’s global trade partnerships.
Speaking on the occasion, Smt. Batrity M Umlong, Director of Horticulture, Government of Meghalaya, stated:
“Meghalaya is committed to creating sustainable trade opportunities for its farmers. This visit is a crucial step toward integrating Meghalaya’s farmers into the global value chain. By strengthening our market presence and fostering long-term trade partnerships, we aim to bring better opportunities and income for our farming communities.” The delegation is engaging with key retailers, trade partners, and buyers to explore long-term collaborations and enhance the state’s agri-export potential.
Aligned with Meghalaya’s Vision 2028, this initiative supports the state’s goal of transforming into a USD 10 billion economy through agriculture, tourism, and global trade. With sustainable production practices, investment in processing infrastructure, and strong global partnerships, Meghalaya is poised to become a leading exporter of organic and high-value agricultural products. This visit is expected to boost farmer incomes, expand export opportunities, and position Meghalaya as a key player in international markets
